What is your favorite part of Harry Potter? On which page do you meet your favorite character? What is the most meaningful quote from your favorite picture book? What is the funniest illustration? These loveable sections of favorite books are what inspired this “I Heart Books” Valentine’s Day banner…
My boys and I recently had a chat about the best snippets from our favorite books. I photocopied those pages for this super simple Valentine’s Day literacy craft. I’ll be honest, while my boys DID love brainstorming the most memorable, funny and inspiring parts of books, the DID NOT give a hoot about making the pink heart banner. That was all me!
Here are some ways to use this idea…
- Make one yourself and have your kids guess the books represented.
- Have kids find pages that show evidence of love or friendship.
- Find illustrations that make your heart flutter.
- Find the parts where you fell in love with all of your favorite characters.
This would be great in a classroom as well. (To save time and copies, just have the kids write instead of photocopy.) In fact, it’s something you could leave up and build on as you focus on finding evidence in texts all year long.
Happy reading!
