Hello! I’m Erin Wing. I’m a mom of three boys and an elementary reading intervention teacher.
I really want my boys to love literacy. I know teachers work hard but they just can’t do it all. That’s why I try to reinforce at home what my kids are learning in school.
My family is busy. (Can you relate?) So the literacy activities you’ll find here are quick and easy. In fact, you can do lots of them in the car on the way to soccer.
Did I mention I have boys? Sometimes we practice spelling while bouncing a ball, or we shoot arrows at words we’re trying to learn.
I believe we should explicitly teach kids the literacy skills they need to know. (Exposing them to good literature is a GREAT start but it is NOT enough.) I also think it’s a good idea to use movement, music, color and other bells and whistles to make literacy instruction interesting and fun.
