Hello! I’m Erin Wing. I’m a mom of three boys and an elementary reading intervention teacher.
I want my boys to be confident and competent readers, writers, speakers, and listeners. Teachers work hard but they just can’t do it all. That’s why I try to reinforce literacy skills at home whenever possible.
My family is busy. (Can you relate?) So the literacy activities you’ll find here are quick and easy. In fact, you can do lots of them in the car on the way to soccer.
Research shows that we should explicitly teach kids the literacy skills they need to know. (Exposing them to a print-rich environment and good literature is a GREAT start but it is NOT enough.) I also think it’s a good idea to use movement, music, color, and other bells and whistles to make literacy instruction interesting and fun.
