Have you read Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children From Nature-Deficit Disorder by Richard Louv? I read it several years ago, and I still think about it a lot. The book is chock full of information, but one key point that sticks with me is that our kids are not outside enough. It’s made me consider some of the things we normally do inside, and think about how easy it would be to move them outdoors.
That line of thinking prompted me to create Writing the Core Outdoors. With the help of a clipboard, writing is something that’s pretty easy to move outside. The the best part? Paying attention to little wonders in the school yard or the back yard can lead to amazing inspiration for writing.
Shake up your routine and get a breath of fresh air while focusing on key writing skills. (The activities in this packet are correlated to Grade 3 Common Core State Standards.) Great for homework or for warm school days at the end of the year!
