The activities on this site are intended mostly for three groups of readers and writers:
Emergent Readers and Writers: The kids in this group are becoming interested in print, learning about it’s purpose, and building up their toolbox of foundational reading and writing skills.
Early Readers and Writers: These kids are learning to read and write. They’re growing in their understanding of letter/sound relationships, print concepts and text structure, and they are beginning to use reading strategies to help them understand what they read.
Independent Readers and Writers: These are the kids who can read and write, but are working to develop greater fluency, expand their abilities, and develop higher-level reading comprehension and writing skills.
Although reading stages are developmental, and not tied to specific grade levels, the activities on this site are mainly geared toward students in the pre-kindergarten to fifth grade range.
