Like most teachers and parents, I’m not a fan of over-emphasizing the importance of standardized tests. But since standardized testing seems to be here to stay, a little test prep is a must. We all do better when we know what to expect, so it’s worth spending a little time to help kids come to school on test day confident and capable. This packet includes materials you can use at home or at school to prepare kids for the different types of questions they’ll encounter on most state standardized tests.
My favorite part about this set is that the main concepts can be practiced through a movement or an engaging activity. For example, when learning to answer multiple choice questions, students picture the different drums in a drum set. (Cross your sticks in an “X” formation over the top of any answers that you rule out, and then hit the right answer with your stick.) The purpose is to remind kids to check out every answer and eliminate (or X out) the wrong answers before selecting the right one.
Hopefully these music-themed materials will make test prep a little easier and more entertaining.
